Date: 2010-04-27 02:11 am (UTC)My biggest point of confusion would be the speech patterns. It just...doesn't actually sound like him, you know? I can hear that cockiness and playfulness, but I feel like it could definitely be turned waaaay way up without any fear of overdoing it. Your version also seems extremely calm and analytical in comparison, almost scientific, which is not something I would ever use to describe him, and I guess I'm just wondering where that's coming from.
Basically, I like the character that you have, and he's certainly interesting to watch, but...I can't actually seem to find any Jazz in him.

Date: 2010-04-27 03:45 am (UTC)To start off, I consider G1!Jazz and movie!Jazz to be two entirely different people. And I have not truly watched the G1 series in years. I've recently downloaded it again, but I cannot seem to get through an episode without laughing hysterically at the absurdity of it.
So I pretty much discounted most of G1 and went looking at the comics that have been published for movieverse, mainly the IDW and re-released Titan published ones. He's not much in the comics either to be honest, especially compared to Bumblebee, but what is shown of him is that he's really really interested in information of all kinds, any kind. In the prequel comics, he once found an alien world that's filled with "the accumulated knowledge of countless alien cultures, condensed into some kind of sensory precipitation." There he just started downloading the masses of data until the alien world started trying to absorb HIM for his data. Reckless and overconfident yes, but I think he can also be said to be 'scientifically' curious about EVERYTHING.
I guess I have been holding back on the cockiness and playfulness because I don't want him to seem over-obnoxious with it at the same time. I will try to ramp that up. Regarding the accents, I just cannot do them. As for the slang, English is my second language, and I don't actually know a lot of it. I've tried, and it just looks entirely wrong, so rather than messing it up every time I write it out, I decided just to do without it. The slang was something he picked up on Earth, and he was only on Earth for a few days before he got killed. He certainly didn't speak like that in the prequel comics.
And again, thank you very much for the crit!

Date: 2010-05-12 02:24 am (UTC)Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming you're talking about G1!Prowl and G1!Bluestreak and the fact that he's NOT like G1!Jazz.
This is because Movieverse!Jazz =/= G!Jazz.
They share some similarities like their love and knowledge of human culture, but they're entirely two different people. Since we see so little of Jazz in the Bayverse movie, I've taking my characterization from the Titan movie prequel comics, as well as the IDW ones.
And he likes to talk. Optimus Prime teases him about it in the comics. He's not exactly talking a blue streak like G1!Bluestreak, but Jazz is friendly and likes to talk to people, hear their thoughts, and share his own, especially if it's something he has sure knowledge of.
